
The Diamonds in the Rough contest is open to any youth baseball/softball player (ages 7 to 14) to share how baseball/softball gave the youth The Power Within to overcome a challenge on or off the field. Players can visit www.briggsdiamondsintherough.com to download and submit the official entry form and entry plus a recent photo of the entrant. Using the entry form, the player will submit one or more of the following formats – up to a 300-word written response, a video no longer than two minutes or a photo collage no larger than 11" by 17" – answering the following:
- How has playing baseball given you The Power Within to overcome a challenge on or off the field?
- What was the challenge?
- How would you use the money to help your baseball team?
*Your challenge can be at home, in school, in the community or on the field.
- Twenty winners will be selected from all eligible entries based on the following criteria: (1) creativity (33 percent); (2) description of the challenge (33 percent); and (3) specific Power Within example (33 percent). The judging will take place on or about March 31, 2008, by an independent panel of judges whose decisions are final. Winners will be notified on or about April 1, 2008. One grand prize winner will be determined by an online vote and will be notified on or about April 21, 2008. E-mail addresses will be captured upon the first vote and additional votes from the same e-mail address will not be counted.
- Entries must be received no later than 11:59 p.m., Central Daylight Time, on Sunday, March 30, 2008. - Eligible entrants must reside within the continental United States. See Official Prizes section for more details. Employees and immediate families of Briggs & Stratton Corporation and their agencies or affiliates are not eligible.
- Official Prizes: Winners will be chosen in two categories: regional and national MVP. One regional winner from each of the 19 designated cities and one national MVP winner from anywhere in the continental United States will go on to compete for the grand prize.
- National MVP Category: All entries from outside the 19 designated cities will be entered in the MVP category. One MVP winner will earn $5,000 for his or her home field for the benefit of and in recognition of his or her team. The prize money will be awarded to the local field. The winner will also receive a baseball-themed prize package valued at $100 and a Snapper SE Series walk behind lawn mower powered by Briggs & Stratton valued at about $350.00, to be donated to the local field where the national MVP winner plays.
- Regional Category: Entrants who reside within 30 miles of the following 19 cities – Atlanta, GA, Boston, MA, Chicago, IL, Cincinnati, OH, Cleveland, OH, Dallas, TX, Denver, CO, Detroit, MI, Houston, TX, Kansas City, MO, Los Angeles, CA, Milwaukee, WI, Minneapolis / St. Paul, MN, Philadelphia, PA, Portland, OR, Sacramento, CA, St. Louis, MO, Seattle, WA, and Tampa, FL – and the national MVP winner will be eligible to become regional winners and are eligible to compete for the grand prize determined by an online vote. One of the 20 winners will be named the grand prize winner. The remaining 19 winners will earn $5,000 each for their home fields for the benefit of and in recognition of their teams. - To be eligible to win the regional prize and be included in the grand prize online vote, parents must be available between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. CST on Monday, March 31, 2008 and between 7 a.m. and noon CST on Tuesday, April 1, 2008.
- Grand Prize: Through an online voting process, one of the 20 winners will be voted the grand prize winner. The grand prize winner will earn a total of $10,000 for his or her home field for the benefit of and in recognition of his or her team. The prize money will be awarded to the local field. The grand prize winner also receives a baseball-themed prize package valued at $100 and a trip for four to a Yankees game during the final season at Yankees Stadium.
- Recipients are responsible for taxes on items received. Please consult your tax advisor.
- Conditions of Participation: Sponsor is not responsible for any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether caused by Web site users, by any of the equipment or programming associated with or used in the contest, or by any technical or human error that may occur in the processing of nominations. We reserve the right to collect parent / guardian information for the purposes of marketing products and services. Cookies will be used to track email addresses so that each online vote is counted only once. For those entering online, we will provide each parent / guardian with an e-mail letter of consent, to which the parent must reply for his or her child’s entry to be accepted. All entries and photos become the property of Briggs & Stratton and will be deleted from the database within 90 days after close of the contest.
