Jack B.'s Story
My name is Jack. I am 7 years old. I love baseball. I think about baseball all day and all night. Last year I learned a lot about baseball and about life. The night before my 1st t-ball game, i fell and broke my righ arm. It hurt so bad. The doctor said I had to be in a cast for 6-12 weeks. I told my mom that I was IR (injured reserve) for the season. I really wanted to play and be a part of my team. I was making new friends, my coach was cool and I just love to play baseball. I told my mom and dad that I still wanted to go every game. I could be on IR and maybe help the coach. mydsd and I were allowed to coach 3rd base. I helped my teammates kno when to run and when to stop. It was fun, but all I really wanted to do was bat. I practiced batting in my backyard with my sisters (we are triplets). I hit the waffle ball far with my left arm swing. Maybe I would be able to hit in the last game. I went to the doctor right before my last gam. No go--I was still in a cast. I was sad. Saturday morning came. I got ready for my last t-ball game. My sisters played at 11 a.m. My game was at noon. We had 1st ups. I went to coach 3rd base with my Dad, but Coach Dan Foust called. "Jack, come back. Get ready. Your batting cleanup!" II went to the plate and still wearing my cast, whaked the ball out of the infield. I ran and ran. 1st...2nd...3rd...SAFE! My arm felt great. I felt great! Everyone cheered. I learned that even though you might not play, you can still have fun and help the team. I also learned that you should keep practicing and stick with it. I'm still 7 years old. Only 5 more days until Tribe opening day! If I win this essay contest, I would like to get new bleachers and a scoreboard for my field. If we have enough leftover I would like all the boys and girls to be able to play even if their moms and dads don't have so much extra money. I love baseball and can't wait to start playing this year. Coach pitch--Yeah!
